March 15, 2025 The Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA) was created in 2003 through the amalgamation of three library friends groups in Ottawa, Nepean, and Cumberland. Since amalgamating, FOPLA has expanded from four bookstores to an organization with 30 sales outlets that has donated more than $4.5M to Ottawa’s public library system. FOPLA has also provided $85,000 in library science scholarships and bursaries to University of Ottawa and Algonquin College students, with the goal of inspiring the next generation of library advocates.
