Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Cardiac Sonography and Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Cardiac Sonographer performs standard cardiac ultrasound procedures, including cardiac studies and measurements, and provides preliminary assessments for review by the Radiologist or Cardiologist. Duties include receiving requisitions, preparing patients, operating echocardiography equipment, archiving data, monitoring patients and equipment performance, and providing patient and staff education. The sonographer may also perform venipuncture for contrast media injections as directed.
