Description

Community Midwives have a key role in a comprehensive maternity care team, supported by the IWK Health Centre. They provide primary care, including hospital or home birth, and manage clients from conception through the newborn period.

Clients include 3-4 per month at homes, the clinic, or the hospital site. The role facilitates continuity of care beyond the childbearing year, maintaining communication with other providers as needed.

Hours of Work

On‑call roster and clinical rotations are established with the midwifery team.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Canadian University Midwifery education program or equivalent in accordance with the Nova Scotia Midwifery Act and Regulations.
  • Eligibility for registration with an active clinical license subject to approval by the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia.
