The Police Service
The City of Grande Prairie received Ministerial Approval to form the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) in March 2023, making it the first municipal police service to be established in Alberta since 1956.
The GPPS is committed to building a modern, professional, ethical, equitable, and locally accountable police service that enhances public safety within our community. Once fully staffed, the GPPS will be a full-spectrum public safety agency with personnel consisting of police officers, peace officers, outreach workers and other civilian professionals.
