Topic description: Focusing upon early Renaissance, this course will examine the world of the Florentine sculptor, from their early training to contemporary workshop practices and the various media and techniques with which they worked. We will explore popular subjects and genres, the revival of classical antiquity, the role of friendship and competition amongst artists, and the nature of relationships between sculptors, patrons, and humanists.
