Course Description:
This course (INF2322H – Film Preservation) builds on INF2311H Managing Audio-Visual Materials by providing a deeper exploration of film preservation. Students will study the theoretical underpinnings of film preservation through concepts and principles, while developing the technical knowledge and hands‑on skills required to manage film collections. Major themes in the course will include the consideration of film as a physical object, its unique qualities as a medium, the practices necessary to ensure the object’s integrity, and the evolving place of an analogue format in a digital world. Each week will be structured around a lecture, followed by hands‑on instruction and practical exercises.
